In the later 1950s, Christian Dior modified the lower part, turning it into a full circle and adding the “New Look” epithet, which adorned his collections after the Second World War. However, few go back to the distant 1890s, when this style of dress was actually a form of women’s rebellion in the struggle for equal rights to education and professional opportunities. This style of dress emerged then, modelled on the typical cut of men’s shirts, which was a way for women to convey their powerful message. This style of dress revives the memory of the heritage of women’s struggle and power throughout history.
